The Australian Society of Viticulture and Oenology recognised Marcos Bonada and Martín Moran for two studies on adapting practices to climate change, both focused on Barossa Shiraz.

The Australian Society of Viticulture and Oenology (ASVO) presents two annual awards recognising original scientific studies with an impact on the industry. In 2021 both awards went to Argentine colleagues, for two studies on adapting practices to climate change with a shared focus on Barossa Shiraz.

Marcos Bonada received the award for best viticulture paper for his work on irrigation management to offset drier winters (Impact of low rainfall during dormancy on vine productivity and development. Australian Journal of Grape and Wine Research 26:325-342).

Martín Moran received the award for best oenology paper for his work on the timing of pruning to maintain wine quality under higher temperatures (Impact of late pruning and elevated ambient temperature on Shiraz wine chemical and sensory attributes. Australian Journal of Grape and Wine Research 27:42-51).

Marcos and Martín studied agronomy at the National University of Cuyo and completed their postgraduate studies in Australia (PhD, The University of Adelaide). Marcos continues his scientific career at the South Australian Research and Development Institute. Martín runs his own winery in the Adelaide Hills, and his wines have won significant awards.
